Halloween

So we went out and said "Trick or Treat, Smell my Feet, Give me something good to eat"... luckily we didn't run into anyone with a foot fetish that actually wanted to smell our feet.
Halloween is one of those holidays that is kinda a let down. Sure you get free candy-that is great. Of course, I no longer have it given to me... I have to steal from my kid's candy bag.  Nobody gets the day off. You have to prep for it. The costumes don't make themselves. Then you have to buy candy because there are always those kids that seem to catch you just as you are about to leave or just as you are getting home. Porch light on or off they will still knock, ring the bell, and want the candy.
I like the day after Halloween much better! It's been a tradition since my son was little to have a pumpkin smashing the day after. We take our jack-o-lanterns and wack them till they are busted into bits. It's ton of fun. Messy but fun!
We dressed up like gnomes.  The females were Red hats and the boys were Blue hats.  I made the hats, big belts for my son and hubby, corset for me and the baby girl, Aprons for me and the girl, and I had to make her a long skirt because she didn't have one.  I have to say... a 3 month old gnome got lots of attention. People kept offering her candy but she can't eat it. I guess I could have eaten it and she might have gotten a sugar rush... But since I can't really diet while breastfeeding, I'm at least trying to lay off the sweets and empty calories.
I really enjoyed making the aprons and the Halloween bags. Since they were just for one day, I could experiment with stitches and design.  Of course I was bad and didn't use a pattern or even measure anything- Kinda like how I cook. Sewing is more like baking not cooking. You have to measure and know how and when to add something.
I also finished up some cloth wipes today.  I had prewashed the fabric, cut them, and did the initial sewing this weekend. I had turned them inside out and ironed them. So all I needed to do today was top stitch. I got the nagging feeling that something was not quite right about the "cotton" print I choose to use with the flannel. So I went into my scraps and found a small piece. I burn tested it. To my displeasure, the fabric proved not to be 100% cotton. It was a poly-blend. So 16 wipes... that I can't really sell.  They are cute too with pink swirly flannel and the print is Hawaiian teddy bears with bubbles. I should have had 3 sets of 5 to sell at my Etsy store. Instead... I have more for my little girl.  I guess when you cloth diaper, you can never really have too many wipes!
Tomorrow, I'm going to organize some more of my craft things.  I'm thinking of taking over the little girls room for a sewing room. She sleeps in our room anyway. Her crib and changing table are in our room.  The only thing in her room is her clothes in the closet. Meanwhile the small landing/hallway near the stairs is getting crazy cluttered with all my craft stuff overflowing.  My sewing table is so full of stuff that I don't have room for my cutting mat or iron.  So I have to use the mat on the floor or go downstairs to the kitchen table or move my bins on the floor and block the walkway.  Then while I'm organizing I'm going to wash some flannel.  I'm going to make some little boy wipes and some girly camo wipes.  I made my little girl some wipes out of a camo  flannel shirt that her brother outgrew. He'd only worn it once or twice so I chopped it up! I made single sided wipes, turned and top stitched with hot pink thread.   They are really cute and of course since they are camo don't show any stains.  So I bought a yard or two of green camo flannel.I have some green and pink camo that is 100% cotton woven print.  I was looking for flannel that was a pink camo but not all pink.  I couldn't find any. I did find some pink on pink camo, but I was wanting something with green, brown and pink.
I also have a ton of old unfinished projects.  I was thinking about upcycling some silk for diaper liners.  I really wish Etsy had more traffic. I *might* have to deactivate some of my listings and sell them on Ebay.  The Etsy store I opened is not getting much traffic.
